Generally, unless you’re being detained or arrested you don’t have to talk to police.

If you’re being detained or arrested you only need to provide your name, date of birth and place of residence. You don’t have to answer any of their other questions – in fact it’s usually best not to.

You have a right to a lawyer, and a bail hearing (usually within 24 hours).
